Holly Golightly

Holly Golighty, Breakfast at Tiffany's Style

Breakfast at Tiffany's is a silly movie.  I liked it when I was younger as a lot of girls do, as a lot of grown girls do.  I thought the movie was deep and the dialogue clever and profound.  It isn't and it's not.  I thought the clothes were amazing and Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly to be the epitome of style.  They still are and she still is.

I've not read the movie's source material, Truman Capote's novel, Breakfast at Tiffany's, but mean to.  I will be interested to see if Holly Golightly is more dynamic in print.  But books don't have timeless trench coats and French twists and the best little black dress.  Here are some looks inspired by Holly Golightly - her character may be superficial, but her style is utterly imitable.

Holiday Style

Pea coats make me happy, maybe even more so on men than women.  I'm always trying to talk guys into wearing pea coats ("an expensive coat is an investment", "they're sexy!") with limited success.  Pea coat, puffer coat, or parka, stay warm through the holidays and take advantage of cute cold-weather accessories. After all, it's scientifically proven that mittens keep your hands warmer than gloves and common knowledge that they're adorable. Here's to delightful holiday outfits!

I like fall.  A lot.  Here are a few pieces of fall clothing so I can hold on to the season I love a little bit longer.  These clothes remind me of fall, but can carry over to winter months, too.  Because love means never having to give up fall clothes - even in winter.

(L - R) Jean Jacket, White Button-Down, Brown Skirt, Brown Leather Booties, Black Socks; Red Scarf, White Tee, Jeans, Tan Boots; Gray Sweater, Black Jeans, Light Brown Booties

L: Bead Necklace, Clutch, Black Booties, Black Hose, Black Bag, Burgundy Booties, Chain Necklace, Black Leather Skirt

Top R: Felt Flower Pin, Gold Coat, White Scarf, Blue Sweater, Tan Bag, Brown Boots

Bottom R: Dark Brown Bag, Black Boots, Purple Sweater, Drop Earrings, Leaf Bracelet, Mary Janes

background photos: 1970 WVU Monticola (The year Love Story came out.  Woodburn Circle isn't Harvard Yard, but still pretty picturesque.)

They have those posters that say "Always be yourself, Unless you can be a unicorn, Then always be a unicorn".  I think always dress the way you feel, dress comfortably, dress how you want. . . unless you can dress like Ali MacGraw, then always dress like Ali MacGraw.
